Known as Loly Roots, Is an artist from Bogotá, Colombia born in 1991, now based in Brooklyn, New York City.

Her practice spans drawing, painting, tattoo and mixed media, her work stems from a deep interest in exploring personal and fantastical worlds. Since childhood, creativity has been her language, and today she translates that passion into forms, textures, media, and sounds, sharing them with those who connect with her universe.

LOLY BONILLA

The Black Forest is not only a visual concept: it forms the foundation of her tattoo style, which she has cultivated for more than 10 years. Her tattoos are the result of a long and dedicated process: every line, every bold black contrast, and every psychedelic shape is designed to bring this world to life on skin, offering unique pieces for people who believe in the fantastical and value detail and contrast.

Her work revolves around a concept she named the Black Forest, a fantastical world she created in her imagination and has developed over the years. This universe blends fantasy, darkness, and psychedelia, giving rise to unique forms that she continues to explore and refine every day.

Her work in other media including painting, drawing, jewelry, and mixed media, allows her to experiment with ideas and forms, exploring paths that later inform her tattoo work. Every project becomes a laboratory where her visual worlds intersect and enrich each other.

Loly’s Musical World

Music has always been a central part of her life. She grew up surrounded by Colombian sounds, like salsa and cumbia, while also exploring genres like metal, which trained her ear and taught her musical appreciation and depth. Today, as selector and vinyl collector, she enjoys exploring diverse sounds and curating musical experiences that connect people to emotions and memories.

Her approach to music and visual art shares the same principle: creating worlds that are complex yet clear, where every line, record, and form has purpose and engages in a dialogue with the viewer or listener. This philosophy extends to other creative explorations, always seeking ways to expand and communicate her universe and fuel her creative world.
